Yeah that's what thought too..probably really nice material as well. Silk, satin..i dunno something like that. Maybe embroidered...I think it would've been pretty cool to see what they could've come up with, but no..they just had to just screw the whole idea. I supposed harry and ron sort of look like they're wearing robes..note though that harry's is supposed to be GREEN! Mrs Weasley picked it to match his eyes...*grumble grumble*ruiners*grumble*

hello (again) i've been reading all the other threads, the ones not to do with harry potter and where do i come back and post... Well it's kind of becaues i just re-read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire... thanks for the robe descriprions, how could they get something like that wrong? well they probably just couldn't be bothered problem solving, but using dresses, suits AND getting the colours wrong is SLIGHTLY annoying... i wonder how the last scene will be done, the one with ghosts... tAsH P.S. rosie, that site is extremely obsessive... i went through the whole thing... some of the justifications are really well thought out though...

not everything is done to letter in adaptations...the filmmakers employ their own styles. Thats what the latest Potter films are - stylistic. And that works for me. The idea of adaptation is not to create a visual 'clone' of the book so to speak, but to capture the essence of it and tell a story that is the same yet somehow different.
Everyone has their own imagination..seeing it on screen is just like looking into someone's mind. THEIR imagination which no doubt will differ to another's. If its a clone of the book you want then plaster the pages to the cinema screen, otherwise just indulge yourself in the genius that is imagination

I know what you mean Lavita, although I havent been very happy with the last two films. The FEELING of the films has been.... not right. They just haven't felt right. the third one was the closest to capturing the atmosphere of the books, but i have a love hate realtionship with that film. (ie. its an ok movie, but any potter fan will agree that they've butchered hermione completely, and missed out all the good MARAUDER STUFF which is the reason that most peopel have PoA as their favourite book) However, I've seen every ad for GoF, I've read the reports of people who've already seen it, and i have to say, it looks awesome. I love it. I love the music. I cannot wait. Me and some friends are going to another relase party, in costume, like we did for the book. heh, I should stick all the photos up here for you to laugh at my geekiness. The photos from the book event were amazing.

HEAR HEAR to the part about the third film..I totally agree...I know that the filmakers aren't ever going to get it exactly like the book and do change things for the better..because on paper isn't the same as on a screen...but i mean..somethings just dont make sense to change and just don't work. So i think really what you need for the hp films is a director who's already a huge fan and understands this...because i think Cuaron's judgement was a little off..he did bring some good aspects but just cut out some important stuff.
About GOF though..i think it is gonna be good..better than the third even though i know they did some stupid stuff (HERMIONE"S DRESS FOR GODSAKE!!) but less stupid than Cuaron did. I'm hoping Yates (i think he's doing the 5th) follows the trend and learns for the Newell's mistakes so they keep getting better like they have been so far....

aparently, they changed hermiones dress to pink because if it was ice blue, she would hav been 'lost' in the blue of ice around the great hall. I mean, I get that, cinematicly, I understand, but I still have an icon of hermione that i photoshoped so she had blue robes on my msn. Because hermione = blue. I also understand why they gave the kids school uniforms and long weird black coat things instead of proper robes, and I understand... but it rankles, because now half the fandom draw and write about the kids in UNIFORMS, when they wear PLAIN, OVER THE HEAD ROBES.
gah... I just prefer book cannon. pft.

yes tash it is funny how obsessive that site is. DUMBLEDORE IS NOT DEAD! DO U HEAR ME! HE'S NOT DEAD I SAY! i swear that's pretty much all it's about and if it wasn't for JKR's already proven style i'd probably look at all the points they've brought up and agree with them. plus anni said it wouldn't work and that dumby's dead and anni hasn't been wrong yet so i'm stickin' with anni.

..you know..if they didnt want Hermione to blend in with all the blue...then CHANGE THE SET!!! Have the ice a different colour..i mean..u could colour it..they've got MAGIC!! and i think that whatever JKR wrote for that scene is perfect...too bad..i'm sticking with her all the way...
I agree about the school robes too..i think the least they could do is just have them in the robe type part of it with regular clothes or something underneath..that's it..that's how i'd imagine it anyways...

yeah i was way younger (and obesessed with harry potter) when i first saw the movies, my drawings and doodles rapidly changed from ppl in shapeless black things 2 ppl in clothes with black things that fit weirdly (for i was in like, 5th grade and did not have (not now, not ever) any drawing talent) and red borders and ties...

only 3 weeks till it starts *jumping up and down in my room* i re-read GOF and now I'm even more excited as i was before. i think it's really annoying that they changed so much. and have you seen the pic with the gravestone. it seems to be Voldemort's grave though he never died....but i heard they changed it cause so many fans have told them about this mistake.

The mistake was the dates on the gravestone...it make voldemort's dad about 8 or something when he was born...but it coulda been him too. I thought it was his dad and grandfather on the gravestone..whatever. It was partially the dates though.
Has any one seen all the new clips that just came out this week? Lotsa good moments..but.i wouldnt recommend watching them if u really dont like spoilers. Also..someone wrote up a review..very detailed...but tons of spoilers. It sounds good but they cut lotsa stuff...oh well...

well of course they had 2 cut lots of stuff... the book is practically 4 inches thick, i don't kno about u, but i don't want 2 b in a movie theater for 12 hours watching a movie that's a word-for-word of the book...

OMFG, did you know they've cut Dobby and Winky from film 4? ?? HOW COULD THEY DO THAT? ?? They've also cut one of my FAVOURITE BIT OF ALL TIME where Mr Weasley blows up the Dursley's fireplace??? WTF??? On the other hand, how fit are Cedric and Viktor!!! Seriously, woah!! Guess what, apparently Imelda Staunton's gonna play Unbridge and Anna Friel may play Tonks! That'd be perfect as well coz she's like married to David Thewlis, who plays Lupin!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

ooh I hate it when they cut out things.... I really like the scene when the Weasleys' come to the Durselys'....it's so silly they cut things from the book out and put new scenes in the film e.g the part where McGonagall teaches them how to dance......I would prefer to see the scene with Dobby and Winky than the new one..... o i kno. they really shouldn't cut and then add in. JKR's original is always so much better than what the writers come up with. you mean they're cutting the ton-tounge toffee scene? how could they? ?

DO you know what else they cut out!??!?! RITA SKEETER BEING AN ANIMAGUS!! THe whole point of that is so that Hermione can blackmail her in OoTP!!! WHYY!?!?!?! I luv that she blackmailed RIta..one of my fave parts...THey also cut out Hagrid being a half-giant and that whole bit with Madame Maxime..HOW R THEY GONNA DO THE GIANTS THING!??! well i mean ..they could..but..this sucks...ANd you know who don't get to see ANY of the Quidditch match..they just show the teams coming out..thats it. I wanna file a complaint but they'd never listen. *mopes* (i'll think of some other stuff they left out and complain when i think of them..)
oh yea..and they don't show that CROUCH JR. DIES!! ..but Anni, that's really cool about that whole Lupin TOnks thing. Imelda Staunton hasn't been confirmed but i think she'll be pretty good...i wanna see who's gonna be bellatrix tho!!
