Ok, this is my fanfic thing. It's not really a scene, more a sort of commentary but I quite enjoyed doing it. I must let you know, I am not an eager reciever of constructive criticism. If you thought it was rubbish, that's fine, but I don't want to hear about it!
I made it seem as though it would be v. hard 4 l and a to get particularly up close and personal even after having become engaged...i'm not sure if this would actually be the case but whatever.
The Simple Things
They had always known it would not be a usual engagement. When you are Duchessa of a great city-state, it is generally taken for granted that your chances of an impulsive, untidy, romantic wedding are pretty limited. You will marry in state and formal glamour, something which bears no great resemblance to anything at all romantic. The Duchessa of Bellezza knew this very well. Her engagement would be long and complicated, formally celebrated by her people on its announcement and yet not something to be paraded too openly before the actual wedding.
They often had cause to resent this. No moonlight strolls, there was too much risk of being seen by an unsuspecting citizen. No long mornings spent solely in each other’s company, she was hardly able to snatch five minutes alone to herself! No holding hands or similar shows of public affection, they may be publicly engaged but there were still rules! Luciano found this especially hard to deal with. Where he came from (Anglia, so most of his subjects-to be were told) it was simply unheard of for someone of his age to have a girlfriend he had almost to pretend he wasn’t seeing. As for Arianna, well, reigning back her emotions was not exactly something she relished, but she had had several dull years of experience.
Yet they had their moments....
It was the little things, the tiny things they could do. A glance across a crowded dining table, the brush of fingertips on fingertips when passing in a corridor, a snatched, lonely, moment whilst touring the islands, a smile as he handed her into a mandola. They were so small, but they meant everything. The list went on.
Rodolfo understood. He would call for the Duchessa to host her father, “step”-mother, fiancée and future in-laws in a private assembly room and then draw the rest of the party away from his daughter and future son-in-law. There was little chance of completely abandoning them in a room together but rooms in the palazzo were large, it was sometimes impossible to overhear something said at the other side of a room if you simply raised your voice just a little to cover it. He had had plenty of practice at secretive love. Even more secretive than theirs. There were plenty of tricks worth noting.
Dances were especially glorious times, dancers allowed to get close together in as intimate a way as the music being played would allow without causing raised eyebrows. Strategically set out dinner placings was also a tactic worth employing. No one too unfamiliar close to the Ducal couple, friends and the understanding few nearby…hands held under tables…
A Secret Passageway…
It was just the little things that sustained them. The Simple Things.
heehee, what d'you think? xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

why not? I think they should let them have talismans..just for one day..i mean really they're his parents!! they should be there..or at least Luciano should go and tell them ..along with everything else. and as a bonus Arianna should come with ;D

Oh yeah Ive thought that one out too - it could work and it would be either really really sweet or very very sad (sweet because their son's still alive and getting married, sad because you're not going to see him again or at least not a lot).

You should! I think your writing style is excellent for such a story It's not easy to let people feel sympathy for fictional characters, and yet you did it with this short story. I'm looking forward to read something longer from your hand

Well, the things I've written (both original fiction and fanfiction) are all in Dutch... I'm trying really hard to write something about Stravaganza right now, but it's hard... there's this storyline in my head but it doesn't want to get out right. And besides, I want to write it in English, so you can read it, but that makes it even more difficult. But I won't stop trying

My English is good enough for conversation, but it's too bad to write a story with... I use a lot of (poetical) descriptions and in English I just can't find the right words sometimes Hm, the idea is about Enrico taking revenge on Silvia by taking all her loved ones away. Too bad I don't know how he'll get to Rodolfo and Arianna in the first place. There's too much security... I have to come up with a good plan And with a reason why Rodolfo doesn't see the danger because, well, he always does.
