Wow. Now, how long has she been writing these books? Anyways, what news have you all? All I know is that it's called HP & the Deathly Hallows--something along those lines. Rumors, theories...even all of that crazy shipping stuff Anni used to talk about. Dang, I'm gonna miss her predictions, which--in case you new members never witnessed--were always spot on. Anyways...new thread, new interest...post away, chicks! Rosie

Hey..wow..i haven't been on here for long time but the mention of Harry Potter (or a new Stravaganza) can always bring me back, haha. The only thing I know about Deathly Hallows is really what's on the cover of the books. Thank god for the UK version because there's always more info and images to theorize about. I can't remember how but maybe someone could put up some picks of the covers. On the UK version it has that little synopsis and it mentions that Harry is going to be picked up by members of the Order.
And then there's the obvious stuff like Bill and Fleur's wedding, finding out the secret thing about Aunt Petunia and her correspondance with Dumbledore....and on the special US edition there's a dragon on the cover..Ron and Hermione and Harry'll be riding a dragon, which is pretty cool. I have no idea what the normal US cover is really about though. I don't think anyone can know for sure. About the big live or die question concerning Harry, I was a big supporter of him living -which I'm sticking to. But I've come to terms with the fact that he could die and that this would be insanely heartbreaking and tragic. Anyone who cried when Dumblydore died will definitely waste out of box is Harry snuffs it.
Anyways, nice being here again. I'll probably be back more frequently now that this Deathly Hallows thing is up!

PS: only TWELVE more days!!!!!! And Wednesday for OotP the movie for those lucky people (like me! I have tickets!)

Holy cow, only 12 days! I didn't know that! Well, if I took the time to think it out, duh, today's the ninth, of course it's 12 days. I had decided months ago that I would reread the entire series (because I definately forgot the first two, and I totally didn't get the 6th one the first time around!) but I kept putting it off thinking, oh, I'll have plenty of time and wow, it's less than two weeks away! That's a cumulative of like, eight pounds of pages to read. I think it'd be so much easier if I bought like, a Spark Notes on the entire series or something like that. Anyways, anyone want to refreshen my memory and post about all of those little hints JKR gave us that she will follow up on in the next book? Since I'm only on chapter 2, The Sorcercer's Stone, I'm gonna need all the help I can get. All I know is that I'm going to be mad at the very end of the book when JKR will finally once and for all put Hermione permantly with some guy other than Harry. All of we faithful H/H shippers will finally be doomed, which we've known for the past couple of books.
There is no way she's gonna kill Harry--why in the world would anyone work so freakin' long just to kill off the character everyone in the world has grown to love? (no one say $ 'cause that' the obvious answer) Or maybe she'll kill him off and then the public will demand compensation and then she'll have to write a new sequel where he comes back to life and starts a whole new slew of adventures...didn't something along those lines happen to Sherlock Holmes or some other obscurely old series?
P.S. Over these past few years, I have been a faithful advocate of dumbledoreisnotdead.com. Check it out!

Rosie!! You thought it was good?? Twas not! It was such a let down! Try and find the most cliche ending EVER EVER and you couldn't do better than the ending to Harry Potter 7.. And it wasn't set in Hogwarts, so it didn't feel Harry Potter at all. However, I loved the Ron and Hermione interaction. That was so funny - the house elf bit. Is there a spoiler thread for this book? Are we allowed to discuss properly?

As the one who began this thread, I officially declare it a spoiler thread. Ye be warned!
Why didn't you like it? I thought the book was fantastic. The middle was kinda dragging (I missed the Hogwarts stuff too) but the battle at Hogwarts had me in stitches. Especially the part where McGonagall is commanding the charge of a herd of Transfigured desks. And the houseelves and Kreacher.
But the return of the old characters (I distinctly remember several members of this site drooling after Oliver Wood at one time or another) was simply fantastic, an awesome way to tie the whole series together. I've always complained about JKR inventing too much and not connecting the different books enough, but I loved the trip to Gringotts, the reappearence of Krum, the way they used the basilisk fang to destroy horcruxes...JKR did a phenomenal job of wrapping all of the loose ends (and there were a lot) into a lovely little package.
I absolutely loved how JKR didn't make Harry kill Voldy. I was always worried about the possible emotional effects if Harry had to kill Voldy--leaving Harry a murderer would end the series on a bad note. But I loved how he used such an elementary spell to make the Killing Curse backfire!!
And Snape was totally awesome. I always wondered about him. There were periods where I was convinced he was evil, then I was convinced--because like Hermione, I trusted Dumbledore completely--that he was good. Then he killed Dumbledore and I felt totally betrayed. Dumbledore was invincible, man! I always knew there had to be a rock-solid reason that he trusted Snape, but that shocking scene just blew my mind to pieces. And then we found out that he loved Lily, and that also blew my mind. Oh, that's why he protected Harry, all those years. That's why Harry's green eyes were so drastically important. I still can't believe it! I mean, people have been guessing at a connection since like, book 3 and I was clueless until JKR told us. I was always stumped about Harry having her eyes, but it was to remind Snape of her! I think it was totally right how he was killed--protecting Harry in Lily's memory was his life's mission, and after that his pitiful existance would be worthless. Talk about poetic justice.
What cliche ending? The epilogue? Well, that was a bit cheesy but it was still SO COOL. I certainly wouldn't land a name like Albus Severus on some poor defenseless infant though but I understand JKR's reasons.
I had a lot of trouble understanding the very end, exactly how the Elder Wand came into Harry's possession--but at the end of book 6, Draco disarms Dumbledore and then Harry disarms Draco and thus earns the alligence of Draco's wand and the Elder Wand at the same time. I really enjoyed how JKR pardoned the Malfoys, by showing how much they absolutely loved their son. I think the scene where Narcissa saves Harry after asking Harry if Draco is alive was a wonderful way to humanize the Death Eaters, and demonstrate how the only ones not frightened into submission by Voldemort and his crazy ideas was insane Bellatrix.
I watched the interview conducted by Meredith of the Today Show, and JKR was surprisingly open about her book. She used to always say, I can't tell you any more, wait until book 7, but she discussed her characters and her plot openly. One of the questions concerned the future of the trio; she said that Harry and Ron revolutionized the Auror trade, and that Hermione worked her way to a very high position in Magical Law Enforcement or something like that. She also said that she may someday compile a type of encyclopedia from all of her notes on the books and characters; it would be like those editions of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and Quidditch Through The Ages that she created, whose profits all went to Comic Relief. I really don't want her to create a new series, because for me, that would be like a bad sequel--what can compare to Harry willingly going to meet his death at Voldemort's hand? The whole point of the series was for Harry to defeat Voldemort, and in doing so avenge his parents, Sirius, Dumbledore, Lupin...the list goes on and on. You would hope that around the time his kids are growing up that there is nothing too terribly bad going on. JKR would have to create a new supervillian or something.
I WILL NEVER FORGIVE JKR FOR KILLING TONKS AND LUPIN AND FRED. AND MAD-EYE. AND DUMBLEDORE AND SIRIUS, come to that matter. Arghhh! Kill Mr. Weasley any day! I think killing Fred was absolutely the cruelest thing that JKR could have done. She said that Mr. Weasley was intended to die in the fifth book, and that Lupin and Tonks weren't--I'd rather Mr. Weasley kick the bucket than those who actually did! George has always been the quieter twin (notice, every scene with them, Fred initates the conversation and George follows his lead) and it's terribly sad to separate one from the other. If Lupin and Tonks had to die, it was good they did together. Ever since my grandma died and left my grandpa like the missing half of a whole... one part of a pair shouldn't be separated from the other part.
I also found it interesting how Lily's Patronus was a doe--does that mean that Lily and James (stag) were "soulmates"? And what was Snape's Patronus before he fell in love with Lily? Patronuses interest me. I think mine would probably be a golden retriever--hard-working, intelligent, loyal, happy, enthusiastic. My parents joke about how much my dog and I are alike, between coloring and personality.
I can't remember anything else but I'm sure I'll have opinions on everything you bring up!!
