Yes, there is a fifth Artemis Fowl! And it came out in September! I had absolutely no idea that it came out, so imagine how I absolutely freaked out when I saw it in Walmart the other day, and just happened to have 20$ of birthday money with me!!
It was fantastic!!!!!! Mostly I was so excited to have another AF in my hands, but it was wonderful because I truely do believe these books are my all time favorites. The writing style is rather careless, though-- I noticed several inconsistancies. Oh but it had a fantastic ending... everyone needs to go out and buy it so that I can talk about it!!
Btw sorry for the super-long absense, I've been very very busy with school and sports and a fence-jumping dog. This was the first book that I've read in ages but it was soo good that I set aside much of my stuff and read it!! What a fantasticly hilarious wonderful thought-provocing amazingly clever book!

Ohh, I also have a quite reasonable idea for a romance in future books(not Arty/Minerva)... someone read it so they can pipe up and discredit my theory!

Oh!! I read that, I thought it was fabulous. And I love romance in books so tell me your theory, please! I've been thinking about where it could come in myself, so it would be interesting to know what you think (and Minerva is annoying, so not her!).

First off, major spoilers.
Thoughts first and then theory. I thought the book was fantastic. Eoin Colfer did a marvelous job of developing his characters. I think that the change in Artemis's heart over the years (books) is terrific. I mean, he started out as this nasty little jerk and now he's totally the good guy, and I think it is very cool how much capacity for love that he has. He's grown up absolutely wondefully. I do think that the books are rather choppy, that they don't flow very much. Eoin Colfer makes things up as he goes and contradicts himself occasionally. I thought the plot line was fantastic, though. I didn't mind Minerva, although I don't want her to end up with Artemis. He's too cool for her. I also thought he handled himself very well around her, almost like a mentor, experienced genius to learning genius. I also thought the puberty cracks were funny. OMIGOSH the end scene where Artemis saves Holly was SO FREAKIN COOL. I thought it was simply amazing. And I think that Artemis and Holly already love each other as companions, they've been through so much together and I love how their relationship has progressed over the books. I mean, consider how Holly originally hated his guts and now they're closer that best friends.
Alright, theory time.
It has been stated in previous books that one of the many gifts of fairy magic includes longeivity. It is one of the basest effects of magic, along with the mesmer. Holly herself is over eighty years old, and I imagine her looking not a day older than twenty. So that little spark of magic that Artemis stole should be enough to give him a much longer life than normal people, so long in fact that he would be under suspicion. Anyways, when all of Artemis's friends and family start aging, I'm sure he will have figured out why he's not. And soon (in relative terms, of course) all of the people that he has grown to love so much will die and the only one he is left with is, of course, Holly! And so they live happily ever after for the next thousand years. I also thought that a possiblility for the final book would be that the humans and the fairies came in contact in a peaceful way, but we will never know what is the final book because Eoin Colfer always leaves the most recent book open-ended!

Yes, I am so relieved to have someone who agrees with me on the whole Artemis/Holly thing! That's who I've always thought of during the books... at first, when Artemis was a prat, I thought maybe Juliet, but that was merely desperation..
I can see that you've really thought it through, unlike me.. I can't see Colfer giving him that magic spark and nothing coming of it.. there must be something there, so that really is a possibility... Vivo Artemis! And I really think that could work... I wonder how many books Colfer is going to write. Maybe he's going to follow through Artemis growing up.. that way it definitely would work with the whole Artemis/Holly thing.
Only problem I can possibly see in it, is that the books are aimed at younger audiences too, so maybe he wouldn't put anything like that in.. but then again, J.K.Rowling did it, even though she knew a wide-range of audience read her books. So.. I am feeling really quite positive about it right now! ;D
And talk about the Artemis/Holly ship at the end of the book!! I was really kind of shocked when Artemis ignores her plea to save her, and so was heaving massive, massive sighs of relief when it turned out there was more to it... they were on a parallel to the moment when I turned to the last page of COF and saw that there WAS a scene between L&A.
Minerva and Artemis would never work. They're too similar. They would get annoyed with each other, because I think both needs to be with someone that isn't as clever as them, someone they can really set themselves off to.. Artemis and Minvera are better of rivals. If they were together, they'd soon get annoyed with each otehr.

Sorry, that was meant to be "Better OFF rivals" not "better of". (Sorry, I hate grammar mistakes!)

Yes, I agree with you on Artemis and Minerva being too similar. But one of my doubts was that Arty and Holly were way too different. Artemis is the thinker and Holly is the soldier. Scratch that, Artemis has gotten along with Butler (who, like Holly is a soldier with an above average intelligence) for so many years, albeit with a much more fiery personality.
But consider this: since when has Eoin Colfer been predictable? Something entirely different could come up. But I actually do think that Artemis's magic will be very significant in coming books. Like you said, there's got to be some follow up on the magic.
Ahh, my heart absolutely wrenched when Holly needed him and he didn't do anything! (I was so totally into the book at this point, I felt like the new, good Artemis had betrayed me!) It was so terribly sad and COMPLETELY shocked and for once I kind of wanted Artemis to stop being a genius and go be with his friend. That of course all changed when I figured out what was going on, and felt relieved to the point of giddiness and lots of squealing when Holly came back and couldn't remember anything. I also thought it was very cool when Holly saw Artemis's memory of what happened. I loved the entire book!

Got it the day it came out and read it in the same day. Very good. Though my fave so far has to be Opal Deception.
Waiting for the next one.
Oh Rosie - you were wondering where I get my info from? Girl, I just know where to look! Little something called obsessive searching!
Afraid I'm against the whole Arty/Holly thing though. Doesn't click with me

I originally was against the Artemis/Holly ship but I think there is already mutual love and think it would be such a sweet plot if Eoin Colfer developed it. I thought this book overtook the Opal Deception, but then again I was so happy with how it ended up it might still be the new-book euphoria. But I honestly thought that Artemis saving Holly the genius way he did was the coolest thing EVER! But my favorite over all was the Eternity Code. Must've read it a million times and I still love it. I miss Juliet!
