what do you mean? haven't you read it? I'm confused! (as usual) In the book at least, Howl is Howl all the way through! It's Sophie who changes!

oh right... well, what he does is, well, he's very vain and he has lots of hair spells and lotions so he can go and "woo" all the lovely young ladies out there... including Sophie's sister, Lettie...

Oh well, most movies suck compared with books.... they're so much better if they're nice and original without being taken from books and twisted out of recognition.... like Ella Enchanted

I read the first volume of the Chrestomanci thing. I wasn't really impressed, though.

Yes, Howl's Moving Castle was made into an anime by Hayao Miyazaki. I saw it while I was on vacation. Miyazaki is AMAZING! I don't know how it compares to the book, but the movie WAS amazing.

So I guess it's worth watching then? Is it available on DVD?

Should be. It's in an anime style, done by Hayao Miyazaki. Maybe I won't think the movie is so amazing after I read the book but really, the movie's very good. And some of the things are so cute!

I adore the book to pieces, but I also love the movie. The animation is incredibly pretty and well done. (and I'm an anime geek anyway, so...) As a film, it works. You jsut have to keep them seperate in your mind. A film and a book with similar plots, interpreted differently by 2 different people.
Actually, if anyone wants to see it, and doesn't mind the fact that it's dubbed in english* or it's sort of illegal, I can upload it to sendspace for people to download and watch. If you promise to delete it within 24 hours and go out and buy it yourself if you really like it. Basic sampling rules.
Anyone interested? (It does take hours to download though - not for dial up users. I normally set things to download before I go to school, and then come home to find them freshly downloaded and pretty. or set them going as soon as I get in, and then have them done by the end of the evening)
*I consider dubbing the 11th sin. Particuarly for anime, as that's where I see it most, and the difference tends to be most obvious, but anywhere at all is awful. It changes the way the movie was meant to be seen. Dubbing = hellfires and brimstone and daytime televison. Subbing = fluffy angels and clouds and good books. I've made an exception for this film because I can't get hold of the original japanese, although
