Well, the three originally paid $10 each, so that's $30. but if they then paid $9 each ($27), and the bellhope has $2, that's only $29.

K so they each pay $10
then they are they each get back $1
but even though they've now only paid 9 each those 3 r still part of the original bill and u don't count them but u do count the $2 that aren't part of the original bill which makes up for 2 of the 3 u don't count leaving $1 lost right?
sorry that probably confused every1

It confused me. My reasoning is this: They each give $10 the hotel guy hotel guy has $30=30
Hotel guy gives $5 to Bellhop.
Hotel guy has $25+Bellhop has $5=30
Bellhop gives a dollar each to each person.
Bellhop has $2+Hotel guy has $25+3 people have $1 each=$30
Now we can reason it backwards.... Let's say they paid $9 each in the beginning... That would make $27 total. But they paid $10 each in teh beginning... So that's $30 total. There is a difference of $3 (the three dollars that they have in their hands versus the clerk's hands). Bellhop can be ignored. Unless, of course, the truth is that they each should have paid 25/3 dollars in teh beginning. total: $25 Clerk: $25 Bellhop: $2 Other three guys: $1 each.
No matter how I turn it around, it adds up...

Sorry for barging in, but this thread was dead and even though I didn't win, can I post a riddle? If it won't work, you can delete it. So: the man that made it, does not want it, The man that bought it, does not need it, The man that used it, does not know it.
What is "it"?

Oops, I basically killed this thread by not replying, didn't I? So now it shall be revived, and Lavita, you're right.
