stravaganti is the plural of stravagante. You have one stravagante, and you have several stravaganti.

Ciao, Signora Hoffman! =) I just finished City of Flowers the day before yesterday, and now I'm floundering in a sea of wotsit because I don't know what to read next. I haven't enjoyed a series this much since Garth Nix's Old Kingdom trilogy, and it's hard to get into anything else. What shall I do if I can't read during school when I should me giving my teachers my full attention?!
I just have to say that the "Talian name generator" on your website makes me laugh, because I myself am Italian (well, okay, third generation Italian-American on my mother's side, and second generation Sicilian-American on my father's side), and yet putting my real name in gets me a shiny, brand-new name!
Also, the sound of pirates in Classe has me on tenterhooks! I hope there's more Gaetano and (some) more Nicholas. I love the di Chimici. They and the Nucci remind me of the Montagues and Capulets.

Ciao, Hikki (that doesn't sound very Italian, or Talian)
I'm glad you like the books so much.
How about reading The Falconer's Knot next, which comes out in the US tomorrow?
All best

Or War and Peace?
kidding!
Another Old Kingdom fan. Neat! There's the Old Kingdom compilation Across the Wall if you haven't read it already.
My recommendation: the Artemis Fowl series...fantastical and funny

Ms. Hoffman--Nah, Hikki's my pseudonym. My real Italian name is turning up "Roberta Bachini" as my Talian name. =P I'll be sure to check out your new book since you've whet my appetite for Renaissance Italy! Lavita--Yup, I already have Across the Wall. I was soooooooo incredibly disappointed that only one of the short stories is in the Old Kingdom. And there was no Mogget or Sabriel. That's almost offensive. =x I started the first book in the Artemis Fowl series, and, like everything else, I'm having trouble getting into it. The Books of Ember series has caught my attention, so once I get paid this week, I might swing around and pick those up. Or Isabel Allende's City of Beasts. Oh, and while I was looking around on the forums, I found that thread on Venice. I found some pictures, in case anyone's interested: www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Italy/Veneto/Venice/ TrekEarth is my absolute FAVORITE gallery.

Artemis Fowl was distinctly hard to get in to, I remember that. My issues were with Colfer's fairies and their technology--I was still in the Lord of the Rings tall-and-graceful-elves mindset and it seriously messed with my stereotype. I LOVED the Eternity Code, and now AF is like, my all time favorite series. Stick with it, girlie!
As for City of Ember and People of Sparks (those are the books of ember, right?) I was very unimpressed with them; I did not like the character developments or even the plot very much, for that matter.

Rosie - Before Tolkien's elves there was the traditional English sprite-like elves of folklore. ;D They came first!

Hey, I'm waiting to be approved as a member so till then I'm a guest! Anyhow, Ms. Hoffman, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your books! I'm a Tolkein meets Chick Lit sort of girl so anything that combined history, fantasy and romance is like a drug to me. Your books are so great. I loved the ending of City of Flowers and I just absolutely adore City of Masks because Venice is No.1 on my top ten places to see before I die. I can't wait for City of Secrets to come out even if it means I'll have to bribe my sister to get it for me in England! (I live in Saudi Arabia). I better start being nice to her now... My friends think I'm crazy because all I seem to talk about is books, books and more books. I think I'm a true bibliophile, although I do have plenty of otehr hobbies. But that's besides the point! I just want you to know that had it not been for you, Adele Geras, JRR Tolkein, Garth Nix, Meg Cabot, Sophie Kinsella, JK Rowling, Isabel Allende and Agatha Christie (My favourite authors), the world would have been and would be a MUCH duller place. Just thought I'd let ya know. ;D
And in reference to what everyone said about elves, I love them whether their Tolkein-y or Nymph/Sprite-y. They're a fascinating part of folklore and fantasy. I ALWAYS dress up as an elf at fancy dress parties. I think I'll dress as Arianna this year though. I'm feeling very Bellezan-y!
