Pan's Labyrinth...or Laberinto del Fauno, El to give it its exact name
A very cool darkish fantasy Spanish film with fantastic CGI effects, and a few grisly bits that could find a place on Saw. So make sure the dinner is well down.
A girl, Ofelia, living in Spain 1944 and who has to move in with her vicious step-father, finds a faun at the middle of an abandoned Labyrinth. In the midst a score of fantasy creatures and humans (some inhumane) Ofelia must complete three different tasks before the rise of the full moon in order to discover her true identity.
From the director of Hellboy and Blade 2, this film is not for the kiddies, being a darker par to last year's little known CGI success, MirrorMask. Nonetheless, Pan's Labyrinth is in places both emotive and moving as this relatively simple plot line produces some surprisingly tender moments.
Best film I've seen in a while. Some people may find it annoying to read subtitles and watch the visuals simultaneously, but give me subtitles over dubbing any day.
