I love LOTR. It's fantastic. Not just one part of it, but all three movies. Allthough I think Gandalf was really good. It's quite wonderfull how they did all the acting and all the special effects.

LOTR brought major leaps forward in the advancement of SFX and the gamble on adapting what has become well-loved and classic literature has paid off greatly despite the speculation. Alongside Harry Potter it has paved the way for many other literature adaptations such as Narnia (again). The SFX company WETA which did LOTR also did Narnia and now King Kong

But I wouldn't know if they wouldn't have been made anyway. (I mean Narnia and King Kong)

*points to her avatar and title* Definite LOTR Fan here. I am totally obsessed with it! I thought the movies were great, ROTK being my favourite. I think they did really well at adapting the books and even if they did cut out some of the story then that is okay because it was not absolutely vital for the audience to know. My favourite characters were Arwen, Eowyn, Aragorn and Faramir. I think it's because I admire all of them, in different ways. I think Weta did an amazing job with all the effects, miniatures, costumes etc. and I think they deserved every single one of the Oscars which they won. ~Duchessa Arianna~

an immense amount of effort went into the making of LOTR - i watched the behind the scenes stuff on the extended dvds. Also its hard and irrelevant to put every single piece of info into a film...you just have to make sure you capture the hard of it...with a few quotes etc to satisfy the die-hard fan!

I actually never read the book before seeing the movie. And I thought the movie was really good, but after that I wanted to read the book, and I just couldn't get through the book(maybe that was because it was the English book but still). I think (from what I did read) that they certainly took the most important things from the book, but there are all these tiny details which they easily could have used. that's a bit pity, but it is and always will be a fantastic movie (to me at least).
