I'm curious as to whether or not anyone else has read the shoebox_project, a Harry Potter fanfiction set in the Marauder's era that is fabulous beyond belief. It's actually posted as livejournal community, and if you decide to read it (which I would very highly recommend) make sure you scroll to the bottom and click on the link that says earlier so that you start at part one instead of part 24 or whatever they're on now. So, here's website, NOW GO READ IT!! (if you love Harry Potter, if you don't, this prbly isn't for you) www.livejournal.com/community/shoebox_project

hep cat.
Funnification is not a word, Moony.
When I graduate I'm going to be a pirate and swash a thousand buckles a day.
And I'm going to stop with quotes there, because I can, and frequently do, go on like that all day and I think I'll spare you.
Lady Jaida is a genius. That's all I have to say. And I'm obsessed, with all 24 parts downloaded to my computer and with rotating shoebox desktops.
remus/sirius = love shoebox is my canon!

You see, I fall into the unfortunate situation of shipping remus/tonks and remus/sirius. I ALWAYS belived that remus/sirius would be cannon, and my remus/tonxing was just my overactive imagination. And now I'm torn. On one hand, I love my boysex, I love my shoebox, I love my slash. On the otherhand, remus/tonks is very sweet.
Well.
Remus/tonks was beautiful and painful and sweet, before it became cannon and all the noobs came along and kept writing loads of fluff and cheese and tainting the ship name. We used to be classy! d**nit! We used to be angst!
Now it's all ZOMG! MULTICOLOURED WEREPUPS.
uh... ew?
But I do think of shoebox as my cannon. It's just so... right. (are you on LJ? and on Cult_sbp? etc??? will have to show you my shirts)

I was never actual into remus/sirius until I read shoebox and then... lets just say the obsession kicked in. I always had an inkling in the back of my mind that remus/tonks was a possiblilty, but I just thought it was too predictable for JKR. We'll just have them both be canon. All we need is a bi Remus (although in shoebox it seems more like Sirius was leaning that direction) and, as portrayed in far, far too many fanfics, he turned to Tonks for comfort after Sirius died and...
Oh I am a member of shoebox_cult. My lj is bookworm567, if you have one friend me and I'll friend you back.

friended. Je suis Krissonia. I've always been a slasher. I slash everyone and everything (like I ship everyone and everything except H/Hr, Incest and teacher/Student) But Remus and Sirius has always been special. I actually prefer them as just friends now, but lovers as school boys. Their relationship matured, and they loved each other just as much, if not more, but there wasn't the segs any more. It doesn't quite work with remus turning to tonks for comfort after sirius died. there was definate cannonical evidence that there was a very strong relationship going before Remus broke it off (which we can surmise was shortly after Sirius' death) hence the ' she still wants to MARRY him!' And knowing Remus, as what we see of them together, it seems that they've had a long realationship. It doesn't make sense that he oly went to her after sirius' death, giving them about 3 weeks MAX, before breaking it off. WTF? We know that her depression is NOT JUST caused by remus - there's her family, her cousins DEATH, work stress, alienation, loss of innocence, loss of her friends - but remus suddenly running off to the werewolves is a pretty big factor - the person you have been in love with, planning to MARRY - thats a pretty big factor in your life! then they say that they don't love you, and run away, everyday dicing with death - that's enough to tear anyone apart. And unreqited love saps magical powers... But yes, I'm all in favour for a bi remus. but post azkaban, their relationship has become deeper. Actually, I think the reason that fandom is so keen on R/S is that it sort of... makes sure that peter is excluded. James and Sirius had a very deep friendship, but remus was left out - he wa on the same level as peter! god forbid! the scummy traitor! how can that be so? and so by adding a secret relationship between sirius and remus, remus is elevated, and peter is left out slightly, and its easier to see how he was the spy. It makes people more comfortable. And then oif course, we fall in love with the angst and the fluff and the heartbreak and GUH... O.O;;; /end rant. (oddly enough, like many people in my position, my OT3 is not R/T/S either... ew. I like mine seperate)

friended back!
I have to agree with you that Tonks' depression is more than just pining for Remus, and I'm glad you bring up those pints. I think that she would have been an awfully weak character and person if her whole life was revolving around him (even though he's clearly important to her) and I'm glad you bring up the other points of why she would be so unhappy.
I also hadn't really thought about why the fandom in general is so attached R/S, but when I think about myself and my own reactions to the book I realize that my thoughts are very similar to the 'need to exclude Peter' theory. I also think that I connect the most with Remus as a character (love of reading, slight disapproval for ill mannered friends) and always felt bad that he would have to play second best to James and Sirius in their relationship. I can't say that I really like the behavior of Sirius and James in the pensive scene and, like Harry, I lost a lot of respect and sympathy that I had because of it. (although I luff them in shoebox).
I'm kind of typing as I think here, but the scene in the pensive also brings me to interesting speculation about Snape and his double traitorness. I don't really have time to look at all the boards here, and I don't know if its been discussed elsewhere and what your opinion is, but it strikes me that JKR would go to the trouble to build up all that sympathy for the character and then make him bad. Unless she was trying to give background and give us his motive...
Arg, I am not the genius that JKR is and I honestly have no idea what in the world Snape's fate (or that of any of the characters for that matter) will be.
btw, what is OTP? I see the term a lot and I feel rather out, not understanding what it means.

OTP = One true pairing. Your favourite ship, basicly. I don't really have much of an OTP anymore... Used to be R/T, sometimes was R/S, has at times been H/D, very long time ago H/G (that was before I was a such a big slasher/genshipper, ya see) and... I'm beginning to get quite fond of oliver/cedric. it's the angst, ya see?
fandom is a whole new language. XD
oh, and OT3 refers to one true threesome. If you're a threesome kinda person. which I hasten to add, I am not.

good to know. I see that all over the place, and I never knew what it meant and let me tell you, it's caused a lot of confusion.
