In the ExE. you also get to see PJ, aka the pirate captain, killed by Aragorn. And the Houses of Healing, one of my favorite parts of the book because Eowyn and Faramir are two of my favorite characters, and they end up together.

Well I should think they jolly well would have the Houses of Healing! And Saruman. And the funeral of Theoden, while they are about it - no-one seemed to notice he was dead and I loved Bernard Hill's interpretation particularly post Wormtongue. (What a giveaway is that, btw, "Hello my name is Grima Wormtongue and I'd like to be your advisor.")
I don't mind five more hours, really.
I know every has rather jumped on Felicity's suggestions but I have to admit to not liking Liv Tyler. I much preferred Miranda Otto in the films. But then Arwen is an ill-conceived character. Don't get me started. Obviously it would be nice to have a part for Viggo (Aurelio was written for Orlando) but I'd have to write up the mandoliering teacher - he doesn't have a role as yet.
Ah well, sweet dreams.

I think they've put in Aragorn killing the Mouth of Sauron and the WitchKing breaking Gandalf's staff..If u watch the full length trailer u can se bits of the film they cut out...Merry pledging service to Theoden etc. What u have to take into account is that Arwen was only vaguely mentioned in the book and a bit more in the app. So considering that the character create worked quite well..so glad they decided not to put her at Helm's Deep though!

I agree that they did a good job with Arwen from what Tolkien gave them to work with, but that still doesn' mean i have to like her. Eowyn ROCKS!!!

I fogot that they had missed out the Houses of Healing, that really did need to be in the theatrical release, because throughout the whole thing Eowyn is in love with Aragon and then suddenly she's smiling fondly at Faramir. It was a huge jump.
I do agree that Liv Tyler was fantastic as Arwen, and Arwen's role in the film was magnified, but somehow I didn't really mind. I can understand why they needed to do that, firstly to have another strong female character aside from Eowyn and because it's very hard to make viewers care about a relationship if you barely see one person in the relationship. Miranda Otto did a wonderful job as Eowyn, as did Bernard Hill as Theoden, and if his fineral scene is in there, I know I'm going to cry as I watch it! I love the verse they say at his funeral, and how they describe his horse... 'Faithful servant, yet master's bane, Lightfoots foal, swift Snowmane'
I have the BBC audio tapes of the books and if you do like LotR, I do recommend you get them. There are about 13 tapes and they have most of the songs on there, actually being sung. They have the herald's song of Theoden that is simply beautiful!
We've kind of gone off topic haven't we....?

Well, we're random people. Most people don't think fo LOTR as sad movies, but I saw RoTK 3 times in theaters. And I cried everytime. Not necessarily because Frodo was leaving, but because the movies was over and now all I had to look forward to the ExE. And now it's only about 60 days 'til that comes out.
And then in the TT when they show Aragorns death and how all the people mourn for him. That made me incredibly unhappy too.

I hate those who call Lotr an action/adventure film..its so much more than that..the emotion is as riveting as the SFX..it must have been a challenge catering for the many audiences but fabulously done

I teared up at most of the deaths actually- not Aragorn's though in TTT, mostly because I knew he wasn't dead and I was going 'what the heck... this isn't in the book...' It didn't help that during FotR, while Boromir was dying my friend was sitting beside me laughing and saying 'just die already!' I cry at quite a few sad things- I did at the end of City of Masks, when I was reading Lucien's death and funeral. *goes back to orignal topic vaguely...* HuntressDiana

oh i cried then too. Sorry to burst in but i simply hated liv tyler as arwen, she sounded like she was just making one huge exhalement of breath throughout (imagine someone going "i have made my choice" whilst sighing exessively loudly). yuk., just my opinion... xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Yeah, totallly agree. Maybe I wouldn't have minded so much if i hadn't constantly been comparing her to eowyn. One thing that bothers me about LoTR is the lack of female characters. One of the things that I like about Stravaganza is the balence of male and female heros.
PS When I said that I cried when they showed Aragorn's death I meant when they show Arwen and the people left behind and his tomb. I had read the book too so I knew that he didn't die and that it was different than the book.

it was essential to compare Eowyn to Arwen, I think,.the link had to be shown to make sense

Oh, I understand. Yes, that bit did make me sniffle a bit. I'm not sure if that's in the book though. I know there is the tale of Aragorn and Arwen in one of the Appendices which tells of his death and her walking through the woods of Lothlorien.

they cut tom bombadil out..didn't think he was essential but his spirit was partially channeled through Treebeard...any who've seen the Xtended TT will notice that Merry and pippin get caught by a tree as happens to all four hobbits in the book..Treebeards lines are taken from Tom
I have Bored of the Rings but neva got into it.,.nor the Soddit..if i want humourous fantasy I'll stick with Pratchett

I could never really get into Prachett, though. Everytime i'd read the back of one of the book and thin "This one sounds good, this one i will like" but then i was never able to finish it. I never really liked Tom Bombadil in the book, felt that he slowed to story down too much so I wasn't really that disappointed when he didn't end up in the movie.

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! Was Stuart Townsend supposed to play Aragorn?! Eww! (yes, I know you were through that one, but still...) ok, back to the subject... ever since I saw Van Helsing I've imagioned ( ) Rodolfo like Hugh Jackman, Hugh Jackman with gray hair...don't know why, does that sound stupid? And Bernard Hill as dr. Dethridge(does he look too old?)...and if anyone has seen Legally Blond, reStravagante a very disgusting character named Enrique? Maybe it's because of the similarity in the names or something but that's how I imagion (however that written) Enrico...hmm, I haven't come up with any actress yet...
