K I'm writing more story, there's probably only going to be about two more installments after this before the end *sniffs and wipes eyes* so....
"All right," Enrico said, wiping his hand wearily over tired eyes. "I won't do it. I suppose it wouldn't have done our world much good anyway." There was a collected sigh of relief from the stravaganti. "You've made a wise choice there," Rodolfo said, smiling. Enrico stepped back. "Just because I stopped the mission, it doesn't mean I still like you. In fact, I hate you. Your wife killed my fiancee. And she must have known Guilana was going to be killed." Enrico's face was filled with pain. "And you," he said, turning to Luciano, "you evaded me and annoyed me constantly in Bellezza. Always foiling my plans, a constant annoyance, on top of your connection with Guiliana and the di Chimici. But, don't worry, I'm not going to follow it up. You're safe from me at least." He turned away. "I'm going back, and I'm not returning. Ever." Paolo cleared his throat. "I think you'll find it'll be harder than you think," he said, "You'll return just for one glimpse, one good bye to a world you barely knew.... and then you'll be drawn back.... until you keep coming. It's one of the things about the talismans. They make it hard to forsake this world." Enrico sighed. "Then you are welcome to my talisman. If you destroy it then I can not use it again, and nor will I be tempted." Paolo nodded. "That's a good idea." he turned to the others. "Ready to go back?" They nodded. "Wait!" They turned to Enrico, eyebrows raised inquiringly. He looked embarassed. "How do I go back?" They couldn't suppress a smile. "You become unconsicous. Go to sleep." And then they vanished. Enrico closed his eyes also, and a few seconds lated he was gone also. ***** Outside, in the house next door, a woman was craning her head out of the window, calling back to the woman sitting at her kitchen table. "I swear I saw it, Mary," she was saying, wiping her hands on a towel, "the funniest bunch of people I ever saw went into the house next door! No, the other one. Yes the one that's always locked up. And then an awfully nice looking young man went in. They haven't come back out yet, you know." She turned around, with an odd expression on her face, a sort of mixture of excitement, horror and fascination. "That was yesterday. Do you...." she lowered her voice to a whisper. "Do you think they're dead?" Her companion looked interested. "Well, I dunno, June. Why don't we go have a look? Don't worry," she said hurriedly, seeing her companion's apprehensive glance, "it wouldn't be trespassing. Just being neighbourly, checking up to see if it's all all right..." "Yes, you're right." June put down her cloth. "Let's go and have a look." She turned and yelled into the living room, where four noisy children were squabbling over the playstation controls. "You lot! Shut it! I'm just popping over next door, be back in a minute!" Then she went out the front door with Mary. They went next door and tried the door. It wasn't locked. June went in and set off down the narrow hallway. Her voice floated down it as Mary hung around in the doorway. "Haven't seen hide nor hair of them since they went in, no lights and there's no furniture here so they can't be staying..." Mary ventured in. She decided to have a look upstairs, a bit afraid of what she might find there, but excitement and a gossipy interest took over. She carefully went up the stairs and came to the narrow door. She looked in. The room was empty but there were footprints in the dust as if a number of people had come in. You could trace the trails, could see how they'd come in. But there were no footprints leading out. She spotted something in a corner and gingerly set off to go and have a look in it. It was a bag, and in it were the strangest clothes. Old fashioned, and strange. Maybe worth quite a bit... and a blue cloak. ******* Arianna and Cesare were nearly at the hall. "If you don't mind, we'll just put him on recliners there, I think. I have no intention of carrying him further!" Arianna said. Cesare scowled. "He's heavier than he looks, you know." "I'm not saying you're not strong..... though maybe Luciano would have been more help!" Arianna grinned; she enjoyed teasing Cesare, and it helped take her mind off things. Cesare couldn't help it, he snorted. "Luciano! With a build like that? He's so slender, he couldn't lift a feather!" Now it was Arianna's turn to scowl. "Oh really? I think you're just jealous, because he's done so many great deeds as a stravagante!" "And I haven't done great deeds?" "Sure, you won a horse race!" "It was the Stellata! And I won it three times!" Arianna was disgusted with herself - she was Duchessa and she was arguing like a common fifteen year old Lagoon girl! "Luciano can't even ride!" Cesare's voice cut through her thinking. "Yes he can! And I think you'll find he's better at everything else!" Things went on this way for a while. Then there was a stony silence as they continued carrying Rodolfo. Arianna stared at his face, not really seeing it, her mind far away. It gave her quite a shock therefore, when his eyes opened and he stirred. She screamed and dropped him, startling Cesare, who hadn't noticed, making him also drop him. "Dia!" she gasped. Rodolfo ended up as a heap on the floor, a rather undignified one. He blinked up at them. Arianna was still recovering from her shock, staring at him, hand pressed to her chest. Cesare shook his head, and suppressed a grin at the sight of Rodolfo sitting on the floor. "Are you all right, Signor Rodolfo?" "Fine," Rodolfo said crossly, standing up and dusting himself down. He glared at them. "What were you doing with me? Why were you carrying me? I've been through enough as it is without being rudely dropped on arrival here!" Arianna couldn't help smiling herself at his words. He would not have spoken so carelessly and freely if everything weren't all right. "Sorry. Is everyone all right? Is Lu-" Cesare cut across her. "Is Rosalina all right?" Rodolfo put his hands up at the flow of the questions. "Everyone's fine, and the mission's saved, thank the goddess. Come, the others will be awakening." he turned back down the passage and strode off. Arianna grinned at Cesare, argument forgotten, then ran ahead of Rodolfo and Cesare, almost bursting with happiness.
ok, that's it for now, hope you guys like it.... ;D

No, she meant that she was acting like an lagoon girl.... fifteen because when you're sixteen you're a woman and have to wear a mask and be more formal..... i'm not sure if i would have said she was actually disgusted though i said that.... more trying to act like a duchessa than the person she is inside.

Rodolfo thanks the goddess? I thought he was against all those superstitious things (hand of fortune etc, I forgot about the name)
Anyway, more story! ;D

Yes I know he's supposed to be opposed, but people say "thank god!" even when they don't believe, don't they? plus, he uses it as an expression if you look back across the books - especially when he thought sylvia was dead...... and in his card readings he reads that the goddess is watching it all..... or was that dethridge? sorry, you've got me on the defensive

no..the goddess isn't superstition! that's part of their religion so he believes in that..the hand of fortune is superstition tho..it's somethign the lagooners do and isn't religious

you do that, you do that..... no, only joking.... OK, doing some more, I need to get this wrapped up! The stravaganti were all waking up. Paolo groaned and stretched out stiff limbs. Rosalina sat up and took a look at her dress and sighed - she wouldn't be wearing that one again. Luciano woke up and jumped to his feet. Where was Arianna? He went to the cell door and found it open. He went out and was about to head off to her cell, when she came tearing round from the other direction and almost hit into him. "Arianna!" When Rodolfo and Cesare came past, they were clasped in each others arms and alternately whispering to each other and kissing. Rodolfo simply raised his eyebrows and sighed. "It's to be expected," was all he said. Cesare ran into the cell ahead of Rodolfo and at that moment Paolo came out. Cesare grinned at him, and then darted past him. Rodolfo smiled at him. "I trust you had a more dignified awakening then I did?" Paolo smiled in return. "Which was?" "For some reason, my daughter and your son were carrying me. When I woke up, it gave them a little bit of a shock, which resulted in my ending up on the floor." Paolo couldn't imagine it, Rodolfo was so dignified! But he laughed all the same. "No, I fared a little better than you," he said, "though I am stiff all over." They went and peered into the cell. Cesare and Rosalina were occupied in exactly the same way as Luciano and Arianna. They both looked at each other. Paolo raised an eyebrow. "I suppose it's the same up at the other end of the corridor?" Rodolfo nodded. "The other cell seems to be the best option until they've cooled off, I think." he replied, and tjey moved off. ****** The Grand Duke of Tuschia was sitting huddled in the corner of a cell, finery ruined. I used to be so clever and handsome, Fabrizio thought pessimistically, where have I gone wrong? I am a di Chimici! How can those lowlifes defeat me? He sat and brooded, skirting around the thought of the Duchessa's defeat of him - it was a tender subject. About three hours later, footsteps sounded along the corridor. He got to his feet, and got out his hand mirror. He looked a mess, completely un-Duke like as could be. The cell door opened and two men entered. The Regent of Bellezza and the Ram's horsemaster - two stravaganti. They could not be here wishing him well. "Good afternoon, your grace," Rodolfo started pleasantly enough. "I trust your confinement has not been too unpleasant?" Fabrizio eyed Rodolfo uneasily. "No, no, I have borne it," he replied, "now, tell me, when do you intend to release me?" "I think we need to come to a little agreement before we let you loose again," Rodolfo continued. "I think one of the terms should be that you have to pay some compensation to Bellezza in apology, and to the Ram." Fabrizio nodded - it was fair. "I will do so. Will you keep this affair quiet?" Paolo looked questioningly at Rodolfo. "Indeed, I think that would be the best option," Rodolfo said slowly, "And I would take your title away, but I am in no position to do so. So I think I shall ask Gaetano to watch over all you do, in fact, I think you shall merely be a figurehead. Gaetano would be more than happy to make the decisions for his city, or rather, cities, for the good of it." "Agreed. So I am still permitted to attend state occasions as Duke?" Rodolfo was surprised he was taking it so well. "Indeed. Now, if you excuse us, we shall retire." "But, but-" "You shall be released shortly." Fabrizio sighed. "Furniture shall be brought to make you comfortable, and you shall remain until you sign the contract with Gaetano." Fabrizio sighed. ****** OK, I have to get off now, so more later!!
