Oh great. What a fantastic poll. Well, ho hum. Just a reminder that there are NO wrong answers, except for options 2,3 and 6. Just joshing. Anyway, if you have any other favourite history movies please specify here. I think I have forgotten some of them.

Personally..i like Gladiator :)amazing cinematography
plus El Cid..oldie but good
i wasnt impressed at all with King Arthur...aided by the fact that Clive Owen was miscast
Troy is somewhat enjoyable on DVD..but i wasnt too keen on it in the cinema..ironically its now amongst my favourite films..Nothing has come close to beating Lord of the Rings yet! ;D
I think there is a Boudicca epic in the works...hope its good..if not i'll do a better one ;D

but it's not a history movie ....hmm well as for my pick i personally can't say..i haven't seen any really accurate historical ones that i would back....there are lots of good ones but no necessarily historically accurate ..i had to do a project for skool and everyone picked different movies...none of them seemed to be extremely accurate. but i do think Gladiator was good ;D

Lord of the Rings is a fantasy film..NOT a historical one..although the setting is archaic by our standards and somewhat reflecting old cultures: ie: Rohan were designed to reflect Vikings
but it is FANTASY...not history..which is an established true setting in recorded time of civilisations ;D

I voted Troy because it's the only I've seen, but i think they twisted the story a little on that, didn't they?

yes..since the war of Troy is 10yrs long patroculs shud be Achilles' best friend and Paris should die in fighting and Helen subsequently marries on of Paris and Hector's other brothers. Plus the two sons she had with Paris are killed when Troy falls....thats what i know of the Illiad

The film Troy did take huge license with the myths.
For one thing Patroclus, as Lavita said, was Achilles' best friend, and lover. As she also said, the war was far far longer than the few weeks showed in the film.
Helen actually returns to Menelaus at the end, although if Troy hadn't fallen she would have had to have married one of the younger brothers of Paris and Hector, as was traditional. Years later, as told in the Odyssey, the pair are living perfectly happily to all appearances and Helen is blaming the entire thing on the Gods.
Andromache and Hector's son Astynax is killed by the Greeks, who throw him off a tower. Odysseus, although clever, was not the handsomest man by all accounts. And nearly all the princesses of Troy, including Andromache, are taken captive by the Greeks for concubines or slaves.
And they are only the major mistakes! I love classical mythology, so I really don't like things like these! HuntressDiana

Coming to King Arthur they screwed up even more. That movie hasn't got anything to do with both the actual myth and the historical background. I have no idea how they came to that story Was quite surprised when I watched it... But... can anyone of you think of a historically accurate movie at all? Even Schindler's List wasn't...

Ok, I got one (I hope my spamming will be excused ) "The Downfall" is historically correct

its all about the directors vision...film doesnt transfer word for word action for action from paper..they are different contexts. Plus the majority profit market of film lovers need the "eye candy" more than the factual basis. But the essence of the story should still be clear. An looking forward to the Beowulf film this summer!

anyway, i didn't like troy that much although i did vote for it..... I thought it was trashy. And I bet half the people who went to see it, only went so they could see brad pitt half naked. I know my friend did.

ok, i voted 'umm, i haven't seen any of these movies,' because i actually haven't. my favorite history movie is Miracle. the actual miracle on ice happened 25 years ago, so that counts as history, right? o and if any1 wants to hear about miracle, i just created a thread for it, and if any1 replies 2 that thread i'll post a summary

I've read the book twice, and that's good..... Never seen the film though. I thought King Arthur was terrible. I've watched First Knight as well which is also about King Arthur and Guinevere and Lancelot, and though that is more true to the story (at least, I think it is ) I hate Richard Gere in it! Euggh!!!
