James sounds much too intelligent to be Russell. How about Gaetano? Or Guido if you are tall and red-headed?
If only I could allocate the parts! However there would be hair-tearing and spitting since more than one of you want to be Arianna.
Duchess of books wants to wear nice clothes - maybe she's angling for the Duchessa.
Where are you, Loretta, by the way?

Is Loretta one of those group of four who write to you that you mentioned? Is Loretta her real name? xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Yes, Duchess of Books could be Silvia, since I'm OLD! But she's a great character... and still very attractive!

Exactly the duchessa thing is just because the original gets all the best clothes and besides she is much more fun to read about because she knows exaclty what she wants and she always gets her way and it amuses me how she could intimidate the powerful Rodolfo. And if you take that as an insult look who miss hoffman thinks i should be the one they keep going on about his being ugly or the ginger(no effence intended to any redheads)
Ps. Russel is the only one in good shape its not like im an evil person, much, but it would be a fun chracter to play.

I might like to be Raffaella then. Perhaps because it's harder to picture her so exactly as she's still quite mysterious.

Raffaella is a hermit she will have moved on in the mext book but even if it is to Giglia she is gone i dont think she is important enough to feature greatly in the book.

Oh, my. Everyone's beaten me to the lovely Arianna. But hey, that's the fun of acting! I'd be just as willing to be Giuliana. I have a soft spot for the characters that nobody seems to admire whatsoever. That, and villains. Acting at all in this movie would be loads of fun! I'm surprised no one's gone for Georgia. I will! Everyone's gawking over a chance to be with the oh-so-fine Lucien (including me! But I'll back off). If you ask me, Falco's just as dreamy in my little head. I'd give him a tour of the modern world any day!

Dear Duchessofbooks, Not as old as me and Silvia is my alter-ego. Enrico must not be offended because Gaetano is one of my favourite people - remember I said he was based on Lorenzo the magnificent? He's one of my heroes. And it is never said about Gaetano that he is ugly accept in the same paragraph where it is stressed how attractive, charming, intelligent and cultured he is. And he's a fine horseman and swordsman and a beautiful young woman is in love with him and he likes books. What more could anyone want?
Raffaella a hermit? No, she's Manoush and they are nomads. But I agree she's not major. My daughter, Rebecca, who's an actor, wants to play her. But I'll have no say in the matter - if the matter ever arises.

In spite of how we often come across, girls are not really looking for perfection, so relax, Enrico! A guy who's into these books (and a guy who just plain likes to read) has a lot going for him! Besides, Luciano does feel pretty inadequate at times, such as around horses. And I am a Gaetano admirer (as found elsewhere in this site), so although he is described as ugly (and come on, Mary, it's mentioned more than once!), he is very, very likeable as far as I'm concerned. Giuliana probably wouldn't be anyone's first choice, but I do like her name... My daughter's name is Juliana. As for me and Silvia... I definitely did not take that suggestion as an insult. Playing Silvia would be cool! But since I am OLD (and you're right, Mary, you have a few years on me )--too old to compete with those who want to be Ariana-- Silvia is the part for which I'd audition! You know, this is a fun way to explore the characters of these (or any other) books. I'll have to remember this for book club get-togethers...

Rereading COS last night, I was reminded to ask Mary Hoffman or anyone else... What is an airing cupboard?

Thats a strange question. An airing cupboard is where most people keep there boiler and use it to keep things like towels and bed sheets warm.

Not a strange question to an American, Enrico, which I'm guessing you're not. I actually lived in London years ago, but as a starving student (well, maybe not exactly starving) who did not have an airing cupboard. If I tell my friends that I'm putting something in the airing cupboard, they'll look at me as if I've flipped.
